What is the Dominican Design System?

The Dominican Design System (SDD) is a central design guide for the presentation of the Dominican Government in digital interfaces. It consists of a set of hierarchical and reusable elements and components that allow the UI, UX and Development teams of the different institutions of the Dominican Government to work in a faster and more fluid way, also providing their own users with recognizable and easy to use elements and components.

This system offers a catalog of everything that makes up a website, including user interface elements, writing style, guiding principles, coding standards, visual design, etc., in order to create attractive, cohesive, practical and accessible platforms.

The SDD is open, free, collaborative and constantly looking for improvements.

Why create the Dominican Design System?

This design system responds to the need to ensure a unified, coherent and cohesive design of the websites of government institutions and public offices, in order to optimize their online communications to the needs of their specific institutional purposes. In order to overcome the existing difficulties, the SDD is based on three clear points to generate solutions:

  1. Sense of unity. Sharing centralized design patterns improves the usability of web sites and generates greater confidence in users when navigating between them.
  2. Speed in design and development. The system helps to build better and faster.
  3. Ease of style updates. By having all the elements and components in one place it is easier to have a new (and old) reference regarding the designs.
